Nakhichevan is situated on the right bank of the Don River. (The river runs westward along the south side of the town.) To the west are lands belonging to the town of Rostov (and the road to the Rostov fortress). To the east are the lands of the Don Cossacks. The northern town gate opens onto the road to Bakhmut.

This is one of the few plans that go to the trouble of naming garden spaces in the legend (and in so doing acknowledging them as features of the urban landscape).
