Plan of the town of Kizliar, Caucasus Province
Subject:
urban history
Description:
At Kizliar, town and fortress are nearly coterminous. The latter is jam-packed with gunpowder and engineers, though at the center of all the male bodies and military infrastructure is an Orthodox church dedicated to the mother of God.
The town sits on the left bank of the Terek River, which flows east to the Caspian Sea.
