Title:
Plan of the town of Kerch, Tavrida Province
Subject:
urban history
Description:
These are the former stomping grounds of the Pontic king Mithridates VI (known to his friends as "Eupator").
A site of naval authority (at the chokepoint between the Azov and Black seas) and antique ruins (the town is wedged against a mountain named for the infamous king), Kerch is not like other towns.
Even the planned elements are unique: the town was meant to fill with fountains, boulevards, and mansions.
