Perimeter length was calculated using the "calculate geometry" tool in ArcMap. The results should be considered a rough measure rather than an authoritative quantification.
One of the important takeaways from these maps is that a coastal location was nearly as important as actual area in determining perimeter length. The complex geometries of coastal provinces figure in many of the mappings in this project.
