2. The Art Museum of the Esthonian SSR. The Art Museum was organised in 1919, but for a long time its work was confined to the preservation of a small number of exhibits brought together accidentally. It was only in 1940, after Esthonia had entered the family of Soviet Socialist Republics, that the development of the museum began. At present the total of the museum collections numbers 11,000 exhibits. Most of them are by Esthonian and Russian artists but they also include examples of the plastic arts of almost all the countries in Europe from the Middle Ages to the present day. / This is a general view of one of the museum rooms.
