Annotation (Nizhnii Lomov): "A. Old fortress surrounded by trenches"

There is nothing on the plan to describe the fortress other than a pair of parallel dashed lines, and yet somehow the place seems forlorn. Decrepit. Slightly askew.

And yet it is the anchor of an array of planned spaces - dozens of neat rectangles - sitting in its place on the left bank of the Lomov River.
