Forest Products
As in the case of chernye tovary, this map pair suggests that forest products played a very important and nearly ubiquitous role at fairs throughout European Russia.
Visualizing individual data sets can reveal as much about the nature of the source itself as about the object of analysis. Among other things:
- Note the strikingly low significance of trade in forest products in the Central Agricultural (NW) region, which is surounded by regions in which such trade was most prevalent.
- Note also that this map pair is in no way a representation of forest density, nor does it tell us much about the volume or value of trade in forest products (see the Snapshot section).
