Geographical Atlas of the Russian Empire
Geograficheskii atlas Rossiiskoi Imperii, Tsarstva Pol'skago i Velikago Kniazhestva Finliandskago: raspolozhennyi po guberniiam na 80 listakh... [Atlas of the Russian empire, Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Finland arrayed on 80 sheets...] (Sankt Peterburg, Voenno-topograficheskoe Depo, 1820-1827)
The digital version of the atlas by Vasilij Petrovich Piadyshev was graciously provided by the map collection at the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg. Manuscript copies are available at the New York Public Library and the Newberry Library. Click here for the WorldCat record.
The Piadyshev atlas is the centerpiece of the Imperiia project. Many of the map layers are derived from the georeferenced mosaic (rather than from modern maps of Russia and its neighbors). Both the atlas mosaic and features extracted from it appear here thanks to the mind-boggling talents of MadMappers, who performed a georeferencing miracle, and the expertise of many at the Center for Geographic Analysis (Harvard).
