The Octogon
Here is an idealized plan if ever there was one.
From the octagonal layout to the neat main square built around the cathedral, Serpeisk promises predictability. The blacksmith shops (12) are located just inside the city gates at both the north and south sides of town. There are public squares with wells (11) in each quadrant. The butchery (10) is just across the river from the meat and fish shops (9). The almshouse (5) is near the main footbridge, suggesting that the welfare of all is of paramount concern.
The only complaint one might lodge about Serpeisk - as it existed on paper - was that the brewery (8) was downriver from the butchery, raising questions about both the flavor profile and the safety of the local brew...
